Princess Cruises has unveiled plans to host the world’s first at sea film festival – the aptly named Travelling Film Festival at Sea.

In a statement released last week, the California-based cruise line released further details of its at sea film festival venture; the Travelling Film Festival at Sea will take place aboard Diamond Princess as she makes her way across the Tasman Sea from Sydney to Auckland next February.

Passengers travelling aboard Diamond Princess during this 12-night sailing will enjoy a collection of six contemporary films produced in New Zealand, which Princess Cruises procured thanks to their exclusive partnership with the Sydney Film Festival.

Each of the six feature lengths films was selected by renowned New Zealand movie producer, Bridget Ikin, who herself will be travelling aboard Diamond as it travels across the Tasman en-route to Auckland. Ikin will be introducing two of her own films to cruise passengers as part of the film festival, including Angel at My Table and her latest film, Sherpa. There will also be a special Q&A with the producer during the sailing.

On top of the two films listed above, another four films will screen during the festival, including The Piano, The Orator, Boy and Dark Horse – all of which were filmed and produced in New Zealand.

Stuart Allison, vice president of Princess Cruises Australia and New Zealand division, enthused: “We’re thrilled to be screening such a terrific line-up of local films – it’s going to be a unique opportunity for holidaymakers to enjoy a very special taste of New Zealand as they travel across the Tasman.”

Passengers wishing to attend the world’s first at sea, traveling film festival will need to book early, as the event promises to be very popular. The festival will take place during Diamond Princess’ 12-night sailing from Sydney to Auckland on 4th February, 2016.
