The flagship of Royal Caribbean’s Down Under cruise fleet, Legend of the Seas, has arrived at its new homeport of Brisbane, where it will remain until April 2016.
Offering a total of 15 unique itineraries to Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, Legend of the Seas is the largest cruise ship to ever homeport in Brisbane. The vessel is expected to bring millions of dollars worth of additional income to the city’s economy, and residents turned out in their droves to watch the gigantic liner make its way into Brisbane’s relatively small harbour.
What’s more, Legend will return to Queensland again in October 2016, where she will remain for an extended summer cruise season. This particular stint will be the longest a ship of this capacity has remained in Brisbane — further proof of Australia’s healthy and growing cruise market.
Adam Armstrong, regional commercial director at Royal Caribbean, enthused: “We are thrilled to welcome Legend of the Seas to her brand new home. We have been working towards basing a ship in Brisbane since opening our Australia office in 2009 – so it’s a great pleasure to finally deliver Queenslanders with an international style of cruising, right on their doorstep.
“Queensland is one of the fastest growing markets in the country and has been a major source market for our Sydney-based ships over the last decade. Positioning Legend of the Seas to Brisbane offers greater convenience for Queenslanders, who now have an exciting new choice in cruise lines.”
Receiving a US$50 million refit in 2013, Legend of the Seas is sure to impress local cruise fans thanks to its incredible facilities and amenities, which include an outdoor rock climbing wall, mini golf course, adults-only swimming pool and vitality spa and fitness centre.
The ship is the fourth Royal Caribbean vessel to be stationed down under during the 2015/16 cruise season; it joins Explorer of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas, each of which is ported in Sydney.
