Azamara Quest Makes Maiden Call in Newcastle

Azamara Club Cruises’ flagship vessel, Azamara Quest, has made its maiden call in Newcastle this week, an occasion marked with a spectacular evening of celebration, including live music, hot food and a dazzling fireworks display.

Passengers travelling aboard Azamara Quest joined interested locals onshore after the 30,277-tonne ship docked in the Port of Newcastle at the weekend, with both parties celebrating the arrival of the ocean liner long into the evening.

Azamara Quest, which is the first Azamara Club Cruises ship ever sail to the Australian coast, docked at the Channel Berth, giving passengers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the different shore excursions available in this exciting city. Excursions and activities in Newcastle include dolphin cruises at Port Stephens, Newcastle city highlights tours and a variety of other niche activities and events around the city.

The evening’s entertainment was carefully planned to showcase Newcastle’s cultural and musical offerings, and was organised by Fort Scratchley — a unique museum housed in a 19th century coastal defensive installation located on Newcastle’s eastern shorefront.

Along with an epic fireworks display, musicians James Morrison and Oliva Chindamo were on hand to provide a jazzy soundtrack to the occasion. The occasion was also marked by a three gun salute from the nearby Newcastle Foreshore.

Geoff Crowe, CEO at Port of Newcastle, issued this statement about the arrival of Azamara Quest: “Port of Newcastle was pleased to support the Azamara Quest and its celebration at Fort Scratchley. Fort Scratchley already provides a unique welcome for cruise ships visiting the Port of Newcastle, with its traditional three-gun salute. It is great to see quality local events showcasing the region adding a unique dimension to the cruising experience for passengers visiting our Port.”
