Norwegian Cruise Line has recently announced the details of a new fantastic and upcoming entertainment: the Rockettes -inspired experiences onboard Norwegian Breakaway.

For those unfamiliar with the Rockettes, they are a famed dance company, originally founded in New York, who put on spectacular performances mixing modern dance and classic ballet. Furthermore, the Rockettes will christen Norwegian Getaway and will act as the ship’s Godmothers. This Christening is scheduled for 8 May 2013 and with the Rockettes onboard, Norwegian’s links to New York City will be further strengthened.

And what’s great news for all passengers to Norwegian Breakaway is that after the initial christening of the ship the Rockettes will provide interactive entertainment experiences during the ship’s cruises.

“We are so honoured that the Rockettes will christen our newest and most innovative ship and are thrilled that their presence will be felt long after the ceremony…We are confident that our guests will enjoy interacting with the one-of-a-kind Rockettes experiences that are available on board, just one more example of how this ship will truly bring the best of NYC to sea.”

— Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer

During the first six sailings of Norwegian Breakaway, or during the first sailing of the month, holidaymakers will be able to see and interact with the Rockettes. This includes meet and greet sessions and a speaker series, where passengers will be able to learn what life is really like with the famous dance company.

However, for those looking for some more active participation, the Rockettes will be leading morning fitness classes within the ship’s modern Mandara Spa and Fitness Centre. Why not come along and see if you’re cut out for the Rockettes. Maybe you’ll be able to keep up with one of their famous routines?!

Passengers can also visit the ‘Rockettes celebratory exhibit’, which will be housed in the ship’s library, card room and the connecting corridor. This exhibition will allow passengers to examine the Rockettes’ intricate costumes in detail, see original photos and watch live footage videos. This is a great opportunity to explore the exciting world of the dance troupe.

And the Rockette theme doesn’t end there! During the dance performances, why not bring along a ‘Rockettini’ cocktail, which passengers will be able order from the bars and lounges situated around Norwegian Breakaway. Official and authentic merchandise will also be on sale. What better souvenir to take from your holiday!

Finally, the Rockettes are known for putting on energetic live performances, but that doesn’t mean that this will be the pace of every corner of the ship. If you are looking for an activity at a slower tempo and something more relaxing, then the Mandara Spa will be offering special Rockettes-inspired packages. These include facials, deep tissue massages and relaxing hair treatments, all of which take inspiration from the glamorous dancers. So if you want to try the Rockettes’ unique style, this is the first place to visit!
