The Rockettes also choose Norwegian Cruise Line as their designated “Official Cruise Line”
A very famous part of American history will take to the seas shortly. The Rockettes, a precision dance company out of the Radio City Music Hall from New York, will take a leading role when the Norwegian Cruise Line takes delivery of its newest and biggest ship -The Norwegian Breakaway.
For those people who may not be too familiar with them, the Rockettes perform an high leg kick dance routine that has been seen by millions over the past 77 years. An amazing feat in itself, but couple that with them performing 5 shows a day 7 days a week and this illustrates just how popular and professional they are. In the half time interval of the Super Bowl they performed to over 150 million viewers including a US President, so you will be in good company when you see them on board.
They have been asked to act as godmothers to this new ship, which means they will take an active role and interest in the first cruises. Two dancers will sail on the first 6 cruises and then the first sailing of each month. Their role will include special themed dance classes as well as taking part in photo opportunities and greeting passengers. As Kevin Sheehan, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line commented “I strongly believe that the Rockettes, one of the most beloved and recognizable New York icons, are the perfect choice to serve as the ships godmothers”.
It is this New York theme that is so strong in all aspects of the new ship and its future. When it comes into service in April 2013, the first of two to be built, it will be making New York City is home port from May that year. Fitting into the image of that city, it will be one of the largest cruise liners afloat, being able to cater for 4000 passengers at any one time and the largest cruise ship to be ever based in New York.
Sailings will be weekly, summer cruises from May to October 2013 to Bermuda, and from October to April 2014 will change to the Bahamas, Florida and the Southern Caribbean.
Two other special people are having an impact at the start of this great ships’ career. The unique signature artwork on the hull has been designed by pop icon and famous artist Peter Max, and it will certainly make it stand out and be talked about when it enters every port.
Geoffrey Zakarian, a celebrity chef, has been asked by the line to create and oversee a seafood eating concept that will provide a luxury sea food experience on board this unique ship.
From cutting edge staterooms, aqua parks, spa and fitness centres, bars, lounges right through to three shows that have been on Broadway, there will be something for everybody
But with all of this the theme and ethos of the Cruise Line, freestyle cruising, has not been lost, so passengers can be assured of whoever they see on stage or on board there will be a relaxed atmosphere.
