Shanghai cruise guide

China is often described as one of the most fascinating countries on Earth – marrying traditional eastern cultures and values with a westernised society. And Shanghai, China’s largest city, is certainly one of the best places to visit.

You can book a cruise visiting Shanghai on our China cruise deals page – or read on to find out what you’ll be able to do during your time there.

About Shanghai

The most populous city in China (which is of course the world’s most populous city), Shanghai is home to more than 24 million people. It’s by far one of the most advanced cities in China – the country’s financial centre and a great deal more ‘westernised’ than many other parts of the country.

A popular tourist spot is People’s Square, located near the centre of Shanghai. It’s surrounded by a number of important buildings including the municipal government office building, the Shanghai Museum, the City Planning Exhibition Hall and the Grand Theatre.

Also popular is Yu Yuan Garden, a beautiful Chinese garden with beautiful decoration and native fauna. It’s also close to Shanghai’s bazaar, where street sellers offer fascinating products and local cuisine that you won’t find anywhere else.

Also be sure to take a cruise on Huangpu River, which will take you past some other fantastic spots in the city.

Cruise providers currently offering cruises that visit Shanghai include Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises.
