Royal Caribbean’s Performance at the Tony Awards

What a splash at the Tony Awards!

Did you see the Tony Awards last month?  There was an interesting twist when part way through the award ceremony, one of the presenters, Harvey Fierstien, walked onto the stage sporting a tuxedo from the waist upwards and a blue plastic inner tube around his middle, swimming trunks and a cocktail in hand!  The audience were flabbergasted by the unusual turn of events!

Flabbergast soon turned into amazement though as the situation became more clear!  This was actually seen as a brilliant piece of marketing magic by Royal Caribbean International, who were acting in their capacity as official partner of the 66th Annual Tony Awards, advertising their fantastic array of Broadway performances available onboard their ships.

At the Beacon Theatre in New York, the screen switched from the stage to the Oasis of the Seas cruise ship from the Royal Caribbean International line.   The team performed two numbers from the popular Broadway show “Hairspray”, lasting nearly four minutes.

The Oasis of the Seas cast did a wonderful job at promoting the company’s arts and theatre offerings during the Tony Awards, something which Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Lyan Sierra-Caro was really proud of:

“We were very excited to bring our world-class entertainment to the millions of viewers watching last night’s Tony Awards.  We also are thrilled to have partnered with the Broadway League to showcase the Broadway shows we offer onboard our ships.”

Speaking in advance of the award ceremony, the President & CEO of Royal Caribbean International, Adam Goldstein, said:

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Tony Awards to give the audience a taste of our genuine Broadway productions, which include Saturday Night Fever, as well as the Tony award-winning musicals Hairspray and Chicago: The Musical.  These amazing performances, along with a host of other entertainment options including our unparalleled DreamWorks Experience, our dive and aqua shows plus ice skating performances, afford our guests an unparalleled vacation that is second to none.”

Broadway shows on cruise tours:

Guests onboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships can watch full length Broadway shows during their tours!  What better way to pass an evening at sea?  Popular musicals currently showing on the fleet include Chicago, Hairspray and Saturday Night Fever The Musical.

Royal Caribbean are the only cruise company licensed to show Broadway productions!

The acoustics and production equipment  are said to be of the highest standard in the world (some even comment that the standard is higher than many of the old West End playhouses!)   The onboard theatres are plush, with luxurious comfy seats and excellent sightlines, so you won’t have to miss a minute of the show!

In addition to Broadway shows…

Royal Caribbean International are dedicated to their arts and entertainment offerings, so you will find a full array of productions to enjoy, including original shows created by the Royal Caribbean company.  Children will love the Aqua Shows and Dreamworks productions, plus there are plenty of “On Ice” spectaculars to enjoy too!

Happy Cruising!
