Norwegian Cruise Line has recently received the delivery of its latest ship, Norwegian Breakaway, from the ship building company MEYER WERFT.

Following a construction period of 18 months, the appropriate tests have now been applied,  the crew have been intensively trained and the ship is now ready to go!

The ship is one of two Breakaway Class ships that MEYER WERFT will be delivering to Norwegian. And from first impressions, Norwegian Breakaway looks set to impress! The design of the ship is truly spectacular and is evidence of the hard work put in by MEYER WERFT to bring the vessel to life. The design features and onboard activities include an innovative dining and entertainment area that spreads venues and restaurants over a three deck space. The ship also houses the biggest aqua park and the largest ropes course on any cruise ship! And alongside the usual spa facilities, Norwegian Breakaway has a more unusual salt room. The sister ship to Norwegian Breakaway, named Norwegian Getaway, is set to launch in February 2014.

“We are elated to take ownership of this spectacular new vessel Norwegian Breakaway that has so many unique features, world-class entertainment and artfully designed staterooms…This is the moment we’ve been waiting patiently for. I am so proud of the team at MEYER WERFT and at Norwegian who worked tirelessly on our newest and most exciting ship.”

— Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Chief Executive Officer.

In terms of travelling in style and comfort, Norwegian Breakaway has lots to offer. The new ship offers various different types of accommodation, and nearly 75% of these are outside staterooms. So you’ll get a fantastic view of the ocean from nearly everywhere onboard. The ship houses smaller rooms for single passengers and also has a range of luxurious suite rooms in a special complex at the top of the ship. Here you’ll not only find exclusive accommodation, but a private restaurant, a pool area and a lounge!

“We set out to deliver a ship that would really stand apart and our collaboration with the Norwegian team has been outstanding…it’s quite an accomplishment to build a vessel of this size and calibre in just 18 months.”

— Bernard Meyer, managing partner with MEYER WERFT.

Other highlights on Norwegian Breakaway are the fantastic dining options. Indeed, Geoffrey Zakarian, the Food Network personality and Celebrity Chef, will open his first ever restaurant at sea onboard, called Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian. Joining this great venue is a fantastic bakery, designed by Buddy Valastro, from the hit TV show ‘Cake Boss’. In total, there are 28 different dining and restaurant options onboard Norwegian Breakaway, so passengers will be spoilt for choice! For those looking for delicious and exotic drinks, the ship houses an ice bar, which will remain at a constant 17 degrees Fahrenheit. Here holidaymakers can sample a variety of cocktails while admiring the intricate ice sculptures of famous landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler Building and of course, the Statue of Liberty.
