Biggest doesn’t always mean best. For a top-class cruise in more intimate surroundings, the mid-sized ms Volendam is ideal for trips around Asia, Australia and Northern America.

After undergoing a refit in 2011, ms Volendam is in great condition and is ready to take guests on a real cruise to remember.

Things to do on board

Whether you’re looking for time to relax or a more cultured experience – or better still, a mixture of both – then ms Volendam has plenty for you.

For example, there’s the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food & Wine Magazine – where you can enjoy gourmet cooking lessons in the state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen. The ship’s Master Chefs, or culinary guests, will show you the ropes.

Then there’s Explorations Café, where at the same time as enjoying a relaxing coffee you can browse the well-stocked library, browse the internet or read a newspaper.

If you feel like being pampered, try the Greenhouse Spa & Salon, where treatments include relaxing facials, hot stone massage, steam rooms, nails and hairdressing.

For keeping fit – or just chilling out – there are two swimming pools and two hot tubs to choose from.

And when darkness falls, why not check out some of the night spots? The Crow’s Nest – which doubles up as an observatory during the day – turns into a trendy nightclub at night. And the Frans Hals Show Lounge features entertaining shows every day, including singers, comedians, dancers, illusionists and more.

Dining options include the Rotterdam Dining Room, serving five-course menus of continental cuisine, with a long wine list; Pinnacle Grill, a booking-only establishment serving some of the best food the ship has to offer; and Lido Restaurant, which offers a more laid-back atmosphere.
