Windstar purchases three ships from Seabourn

0

Windstar Cruises, owned by Xantera Parks & Resorts, has recently acquired three of Seabourn’s ships, Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Legend and Seabourn Spirit.

The purchases were part of a project called ‘Global Windstar’ and these new acquisitions will double the size of Windstar Cruises’ newly renovated yacht fleet. This should make the cruise company the market leader in small-ship cruising. During the transition of the ships, there will be no disruption or changes made to Seabourn Pride’s itinerary, which will be transferred in April 2014. Likewise, there are no slated changes to the itinerary of Seabourn Spirit which will be transferred in April 2015, and Seabourn Legend which will go in May 2015.

Quotes from Seabourn and Windstar about the purchases:

“Seabourn remains dedicated to our mission of creating the world’s finest travel experiences through our small-ship cruising product…Our three newest vessels, Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn, and Seabourn Quest have raised the bar for ultra-luxury cruising and we intend to add a fourth ship of similar design…Seabourn is already in discussion with shipbuilders and an order is likely to be announced within the current fiscal year. The new ship will allow Seabourn to maintain much of its current guest capacity.”

— Seabourn President Richard Meadows

“Windstar is proud of its heritage in sailing, but what our guests are most enthusiastic about is our intimate, yacht style of cruising. This style is the core of our brand experience and the new ships are a perfect fit to build on that foundation”

— Chief Executive Officer of Windstar Cruises, Hans Birkholz

About Seabourn:

Seabourn has won consistent praise as a cruise travel company and has been frequently ranked highly by professional travel critics and has won accolades in different cruising publications. The line has six ships with a relatively small intimate capacity, ensuring a friendly atmosphere. Due to the smaller size of its ships, Seabourn hosts cruise itineraries to must-see places where a much larger ship cannot go. With fine dining and luxurious bars and lounges, passengers are guaranteed a unique holiday experience.

About Windstar:

Like Seabourn, Windstar Cruises also has a fleet of small cruise ships which matches an intimate atmosphere with luxury onboard facilities. The company sends its ships all over the global and ensures that potential holidaymakers will always find a holiday to suit them. The three ships that Windstar have acquired from Seabourn can hold between 148 to 310 passengers. This fits perfectly into the company’s brand of making sure that fantastic intimate cruises continued to be offered. The three new ships are set to visit 50 different nations and will call upon over 100 ports across the world. What is so great about cruising with Windstar is that the smaller ships really give you the experience of sailing on the open sea, more so than a large cruise ship. So if you choose a holiday with Windstar, get ready to see the sails billow and experience the sensation of being on your own private yacht!
