Holland America Line Introduces Master Chef’s International Dinner

It’s no secret that cruising is a culinary delight and definitely not a time to be watching the calories.  Visiting the ‘alternative’ restaurants on board is a ‘must-do’ and cruise lines go out of their way to recruit a variety of professionally trained chefs to tantalise your palate.  At the speciality restaurants, their recipes are re-created to order, and the on-board chef then puts final touches to it.

But Holland America have taken this to a whole new level with it’s latest special dining option.

How would you like to be sailing away across the ocean to foreign parts and be able to have a Master Chef International Dinner on the way?  Master Chef Rudi Sodamin, who works with the line’s top chefs, has created an exotic menu of international meals from across six continents.

The exclusive menu, which is available in the main dining room for one evening on each cruise, offers over 20 dishes of appetisers, entrees and desserts.  Guests can pick and choose their own three or four course meal or go with the advice of the creator and choose Chef Rudi’s Tour Around the World, the Master Chef’s pre-selected three course meal.

“The Master Chef’s International Dinner is a special culinary celebration of cultures around the world.  Each dish captures the essence of the region’s cuisine with each course complementing the next, making for a truly exquisite dining experience for our guests.”

– Richard Meadows, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs

Menu items, fit for a Master Chef, include Argentinean Guiso Soup, Lebanese Lamb Shank, Tofu and Veg Korma, New York cheesecake, and kiwi and passionfruit pavlova.

This special International offering runs alongside Holland America’s usual eclectic choice of foods available on their ships.

Everything from a five-course formal dinner to a casual poolside snack, their ‘As you Wish’ dining gives you the chance to choose the type of food and the venue for your meals.  All on-board meals are produced using only highest quality meats and seafood. To accompany your meal, how about a nice wine? The wine stewards are all trained to advise you according to your meal choices.

For that very special evening, how about ordering dinner for two on your own private verandah, overlooking the sea (hopefully on a calm evening!) and watching the sun go down.

Perhaps you sometimes would like a simple snack?  There’s a lovely on-board Explorations Café for pastries and expresso.

Whilst on board you might like to take the opportunity to do take part in that old fashioned custom of ‘afternoon tea’.  It’s not just about the delicate sandwiches, the tiny tasty morsels of cream cakes, but more about the taking time out to sit with new friends, taking the chance to talk and relax.  At Holland America they don’t stop at normal tea leaves – there’s Dutch High Tea, Indionesian High Tea, Daily Casual Tea – various combinations on each sailing.

And if all that food opportunity wasn’t enough and you just happen to get those chocolate munchies in the middle of the night, Holland America have just the thing for you – Late Night Chocolate Dessert Extravaganza!
