Cruise Holiday Travel Guide: Naples

0

Naples may not be the first place you think of when you’re going on a cruise to Italy, but it’s certainly a place you’ll remember for some time to come.

Cruise 1st Australia has some great deals on cruises visiting Naples this year and in 2015. Check out our Europe cruise deals page for the latest.

In the meantime, read on to find out why Naples might just be one of the most memorable stops on your cruise.

About Naples

Naples, known as Napoli by the locals, is Italy’s third-largest city after Rome and Milan. Each year the port of Naples receives the second-highest number of passengers in the world, after Hong Kong.

It also just happens to be the home of pizza – so taste the real thing here! There are pizza restaurants seemingly on every corner and many are not all that expensive.

Naples is famous for its coffee too, so be sure to check out one of the many coffee shops and sample a real espresso or a capuccino.

No Naples trip would be complete without a trip to see Pompeii and Vesuvius, of course. In Pompeii you’ll see the preserved figures of ancient residents caught in the volcanic lava, and the volcano remains a magnificent sight to this day.

There’s also an array of stunning architecture in Naples, particularly Duomo Cathedral, which dates back to the fourth century. Meanwhile the Capella di San Gennaro holds the relics of San Gennaro including a skull and two vials of his blood.

And of course, with Naples being a coastal city there’s also a fantastic beach. During the summer the beach is often host to some vibrant beach parties, but you’ll also find some time to relax during the day.

Cruise lines currently visiting Naples include Royal Caribbean Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line and Holland America Line.
