About Wellington

Wellington is well-known in New Zealand for its arts scene, outdoorsy lifestyle and world-class cafés and restaurants – a great place to spend a day or two on your New Zealand cruise.

The capital city is home to around 400,000 people, and is the most populous city in the country. It actually has more cafés, bars and restaurants than New York City, despite being less than a quarter of the size. It’s a great place to walk around, and it’s possible to take in most of the city in just a few days.

Top things to do in Wellington include visiting Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum; taking a Wellington shore excursion, which takes you around some of the city’s most magnificent sights; a cable car tour up to the botanical gardens; and for film buffs, the Lord of the Rings half-day tour.

And of course you’ll have the chance to visit some other fascinating destinations in the area, including Auckland, Tauranga, and the Fiordlands.

Cruise lines currently visiting Wellington include Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises and P&O Cruises.
