Puntarenas, capital of Costa Rica is a beautiful place to visit as part of one of our Mexican Riviera cruises – and as always, we’re here with some fantastic deals.
You can see the latest deals on cruises visiting Puntarenas here. Or keep reading to learn more about what makes the place tick.
Translating as ‘sandy point’ in English, Puntarenas provides its fair share of relaxing beaches for visitors to enjoy, along with a thriving city and many more places to visit.
The city is home to around 100,000 people, a large number of whom work in the tourism industry. Indeed there is a very high number of tourist attractions here. Perhaps one of the most popular is the aptly-named Paseo De Los Turistas (‘tourist walk’), which is located near the cruise ship pier. Here you’ll find various little kiosks selling local art and souvenirs, as well as park areas, showers and restrooms to help you enjoy a day by the beach.
The Historic Marine Museum is also worth visiting, giving an insight into the history of the port area and explaining how indigenous groups settled here.
Meanwhile Puntarenas Marine Park is home to a wide range of beautiful sea life, including manta rays. It’s located right near the old train station.
Cruise lines visiting Puntarenas include Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises.
