About Edinburgh

It’s hard to know where to begin when describing the highlights of Edinburgh. Few cities boast so many world-class restaurants, stunning architecture, fascinating history and culture as well as spectacular scenery.

A great place to start your explorations is the iconic Edinburgh Castle. Situated at the end of the historic Royal Mile and atop a dramatic hill, the medieval castle dominates the city landscape. The castle is understandably one of the city’s top tourist attractions. Be sure to take a guided tour inside the castle to learn about its history from a place of royal residence to the British Army’s military base.

For further insight into Scottish history, visit the National Museum of Scotland. The museum is housed in two connected buildings – one Victorian and one modern. The new building houses exhibits which show Scotland’s history up to the 1990s and the old building covers archeology, natural history, science and industrial technology as well as art displays from ancient China and Egypt.

For a museum with a difference visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. The ship is now permanently moored and offers and audio tour which describes the history of the ship as the British Royal family’s floating holiday home.

Spend some time exploring the city’s Old Town – the Royal Mile is the name given to the streets which run through this part of the city. Take in the stunning architecture in this part of the city – dominated by Edinburgh Castle overlooking the streets.

It is also well worth a visit to the city’s New Town – the most popular area being Princes Street. Here you will find boutique shops and world-class restaurants.

Cruise lines currently sailing to Edinburgh include Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises.
