About Carnival Cruises
Carnival Cruises was founded in 1972, and is the largest cruise line under the Carnival Corporation. Its 24 vessels at one point accounted for some 21% of the global market.
It has established itself as a ‘fun’ cruise line, far from the more laid-back atmosphere of most cruise lines. Many of its ships are known for ‘Las Vegas’-style entertainment and decor, along with a range of exciting activities and amenities.
Carnival Cruise ships
Carnival currently only operates one ship around the Australian coast – Carnival Spirit. This 12-deck Spirit-class ship holds around 2,680 passengers and 961 staff, and can reach speeds of around 22 knots (about 25mph or 41km/h).
Carnival Spirit boasts one of the largest water parks at sea, complete with the ‘Green Thunder’, a thrilling twister water slide. You’ll also find a full range of fitness facilities including a basketball court and running track, and a choice of 16 on-board bars and lounges for when night falls.
The ship is currently based in Australia all year round, with a number of trips around the Australian coast available for 2013 and 2014.
