Discover Gallipoli in Style with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean

This year, April 25 will mark exactly 100 years since Australian ships first landed on the shores of Gallipoli in 1915. Every year since Australians and New Zealanders have taken part in dawn services, waved on veterans in parades and recognised a minute of silence in honour of those who lost their lives that fateful April morning. While most choose to pay their respects on Australian shores nothing is quite as emotional as journeying to Gallipoli and experiencing the cove with your own eyes. In honour of ANZAC Day’s 100th year anniversary Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have launched special itineraries which give passengers an opportunity to take part in their very own Anzac experience.

So what curated adventures do the two long-established lines have in store for this year?  Here are three of our favourites…

Celebrity Cruises – 17 Night Fly/Stay/Cruise Adventure

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime experience to be in Turkey’s Anzac Cove on the 100th year anniversary of the 1915 landing. After a two night stay in Rome passengers will embark the five star Celebrity Constellation at the Tyrrhenian Sea port of Civitavecchia. April 23 and 24 will be spent sailing the Gallipoli peninsula while April 25 will see the ship cruise into Anzac Cove on what is widely regarded as Australia’s most important national occasion. Here, passengers will be given the opportunity to watch a televised version of the Dawn Service, take part in an on-board service as well as attend a presentation given by professional historian, World War 1 & 2 author and keynote speaker, Peter Donovan. The next day passengers can explore the seaside fort of Canakkale in an overnight stay, then soak up the sights and sounds of bustling Istanbul. Celebrity Constellation then sets her sights west towards Greece’s largest seaport of Piraeus. From here, passengers venture into amazing Athens, marvel at the dramatic landscape of Santorini, eat up a storm in Naples and wrap things up back in ancient Rome.

The ship sets sail on April 19 so get in quick to secure your place!

Celebrity Cruises – Greece and Turkey Cruise with ANZAC Tour

While spending April 25 in Anzac Cove is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity it’s not the only way to experience the region’s hugely significant national history. On June 11 Celebrity is offering passengers the chance to embark on a 14 night voyage on-board the luxurious Celebrity Equinox which kicks off in the ancient city of Athens. Passengers embark the ship on June 13 bound for Rhodes, Mykonos and Santorini. The sunny seaside port of Kusadasi is the first Turkish destination, with two nights in Istanbul to follow. A two day Gallipoli tour brings the voyage to an emotional close, with guests visiting Kabatepe Museum, Anzac Cove, Lone Pine Cemetery, The Nek, 57th Regiment, Chunuk Bair and the world famous archaeological site of Troy. It’s the perfect way to re-imagine the fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders and pay homage to our brave soldiers.

Royal Caribbean – 17 night Mediterranean Cruise with Anzac Tour

Escape the Aussie winter by jetting off to sweltering Istanbul on May 29! After a day of marvelling at Hagia Sophia’s dome, sampling powdery sweet Turkish Delight and getting lost in the Grand Bazaar passengers embark Rhapsody of the Seas with their sights set on Kusadasi and the magnificent ruins of Ephesus. The Aegean resort of Bodrum is next on the itinerary, followed by calls at Rhodes, Santorini, Athens, Mykonos and Chania. The round-trip Mediterranean voyage ends in back in Istanbul where passengers enjoy a day of exploring before heading off on two day Gallipoli tour that takes them into the heart of Anzac Cove.
