As winner of multiple industry entertainment awards, Princess Cruises knows a thing or two about showing its passengers a good time. Now, the line is living up to its ‘razzle dazzle’ reputation and debuting a brand new stage show produced in collaboration with Oscar, Tony and Grammy award-winning composer, Stephen Schwartz.

It’s an all-out salutation of movement, with Adrian Fischer, vice president of entertainment experience for Princess Cruises commenting “Celebrating the role dance plays on Broadway through famous musical hits from some of the most famous Broadway shows in history was Stephen’s vision for the highly-anticipated second musical production in our partnership.”

A blast from Broadway’s past

Big, bold and brimming with energy, “Born to Dance” is a tribute to the choreography that’s been gracing Broadway stages for decades. It celebrates a host of famous hits, with Daniel C. Levine stepping up as the show’s director.

“‘Born to Dance’ will no doubt deliver an uplifting, feel-good show with our guests leaving the theatre feeling energised, happy and nostalgic after enjoying dance performed to so many beloved Broadway songs,” adds Fischer.

So which world-famous routines have Schwartz and his team chosen to spotlight? West Side Story, A Chorus Line and Chicago are just three of the shows that caught their eye, with dancers breathing new life into routines from trail-blazing choreographers like Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins and Gower Champion.

A next generation show

As well as hiring some of the hottest dancers in the industry, the show will also feature virtual appearances from a line-up of industry legends via video and multi-media projection streams. We’re talking Tony winners like Andy Blankenbuehler who starred in Hamilton, Rob Ashford who lit up the stage in Evita and Karen Ziemba, the lady who danced up a storm in Chicago.

“Dan Levine, creator and director of ‘Born to Dance,’ inspired me with his vision of a show that pays tribute to the larger-than-life choreographers who have shaped Broadway and the dancers whose passion brings their work to life,” explains Stephen Schwartz. “I was honoured to propose this show to Princess and for Dan and I to work closely with them refining its structure and song list, assembling a world-class creative team and securing the participation of some of Broadway’s most accomplished choreographers and dancers.”
