The Australian cruise market welcomed exciting news this month with the announcement that P&O plans to run debut departures from Singapore and Cairns. The announcement goes hand in hand with the line’s plans to expand its fleet to five vessels for the 2015-16 cruise season.

Aria and Eden up P&O’s ocean presence

P&O’s newest fleet members were unveiled earlier this year at a naming ceremony held at Sydney’s world famous Bondi Beach. Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria were the winning entries chosen from over 30,000 Facebook submissions.

Thanks to the addition of Eden and Aria, P&O Cruises will be offering Australian passengers a huge 250 cruises throughout its 2015-16 programme. As well as new departures from Singapore and Cairns, the line will also be expanding its vessel presence in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Auckland.

P&O Australia CEO, Ann Sherry explains, “With five ships in our fleet we can now meet the growing demand for cruise holidays from around Australia, with extended seasons from existing homeports and the addition of new homeports such as Cairns.”

Cairns and Singapore set to attract cruisers from Australia and beyond

As the gateway to Australia’s famous Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is set to be a popular departure point for travellers wanting to explore the spectacular underwater ecosystem. Departures from Singapore are expected to be an instant hit with Australian travellers holidaying in the glamorous sovereign city-state. With the Asian tourism market rapidly on the rise, Singapore departures are also aimed at local residents.

Pacific Eden will service both of the new departure ports, as well as sailing from Fremantle, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Pacific Aria will pick up passengers from Sydney and Brisbane, Pacific Jewel will depart from Sydney and Melbourne, Pacific Dawn will exclusively service Brisbane while Pacific Pearl will depart from Sydney and Auckland.

Exotic destinations make debut appearance on P&O itinerary

Included in the new itineraries is a handful of exciting new international ports of call such as Jakarta in Indonesia, Ko Chang in Thailand and Honiara in the Solomon Islands. Some beautiful Australian destinations are also on the cards, including Queensland’s Hamilton Island, Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and Western Australia’s Esperance.

“Plus more ships means we can visit some wonderful new towns around Australia and the Pacific, on a fantastic range of itineraries which are looking more attractive than ever” added Sherry.
