Garden and floral design will hit the high seas with Crystal’s Barcelona to Venice cruise on April 21 2013.

The luxury cruise named “La Dolce Vita” will be giving guests the chance to visit some of the most stunning gardens in the French and Italian Riviera, and the Catalan coast. Access has been negotiated to some of the most exquisite private gardens in the area.

On board Crystal Serenity will be celebrity floral designer and author, Paula Pryke along with Sybil Sylvester, founder of Wildflower Designs. Guests will have the opportunity to attend workshops on floral design and arrangements and discussions on everything floral.

Victoria Harris, manager of Hotel Services at Crystal cruises says “The scenery in these destinations is simply spectacular, and is only enhanced by the artistry and historical significance expressed in their garden. Together, the ship and shore enrichment allows travellers to get to know the area, and its unparalleled landscape, in a really novel way”.

Whether an experienced florist or a total amateur, there will be something for everyone on this trip and everyone will have the opportunity to make their own floral souvenir of the cruise with Paula and Sybil’s help.

On this cruise, you will have the opportunity to a visit Venice to discover the exquisite private courtyards and Venetian squares. Included is a visit to the 16th century Palazzo Querini Stampalia museum designed by Carlo Scapa, an Italian modernist architect.

In Monte Carlo, the theme moves to succulents, umbrella pines and rare fruit trees that enjoy this sub-tropical microclimate. Travelling the Cote d’Azur gives guests a chance to experience a wide mix of Spanish, French and English garden design and a highlight will be the chance to find out which flowers taste as good as they smell with a cooking with flowers demonstration.
The alternative guide to Barcelona gives cruisers a look at gardens off the tourist radar with a visit to the new Botanical Garden, whose emphasis is on conservation and protection of plants local to the Mediterranean climates. The Park Guell designed by the famous Gaudi and the neoclassical Cypress maze in Labyrinth Park give a wide variety to this shore visit.

A visit to this area would not be complete without taking the opportunity to view the cascading fountains and grottos of Rome. Some of these early Renaissance gardens date back up to 450 years and part of the attraction is the wonder of how they managed to achieve such amazing architectural feats.

Another Garden and Floral Design cruise leaves Los Angeles on 6th May to sail to New York via Florida, Costa Rica and the Caribbean. It gives the opportunity to visit many private and public gardens along the way. Further details will be available soon.

Crystal pride themselves in offering their guests something that bit special on their ships, and their customer care, luxurious cabins and on board space has earned them many “World’s Best” quality awards.
