Cruise1st’s Highlights and Events for 2015

0

The next year looks set to be an incredibly exciting and busy one for the Australian cruise industry as it anticipates record numbers of cruise ship visitors and passengers. A selection of special events look set to make the year even more exciting – here we look at some of the most interesting events in the Australian and global cruise industry calendar in 2015.

P&O Australia Increase Fleet

The P&O Australia fleet is set to grow from three to five vessels in November 2015, just in time for the summer season. P&O Australia are commandeering (in a friendly way) the MS Ryndam and MS Statendam from Holland America Line to join the existing fleet of Pacific Dawn, Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl. The new ships will be known as the Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria respectively.

Emerald Princess - Raging Wire

The two ships are slightly smaller than their new sister ships but will be the youngest members of the ship having been built in 1994 and 1993.

Anthem of the Seas

Although it may be a few seasons until the Anthem of the Seas (or any member of the Royal Caribbean’s new Quantum Class) visits Australia, the ship will provide an exciting insight into the future of the cruise industry. Billed as the first ‘smartships’ on the seas, the Quantum Class will feature high speed internet connectivity and a selection of next generation features including bionic bartenders and skydiving simulators.

The ship will spend its debut season and foreseeable future sailing out of Southampton, UK.

Norwegian Escape

Set to launch in October 2015, the Escape will become the largest ship of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. Sailing out of Miami, the Escape is set to spend its first two seasons on the seas touring around Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean. The ship will be the first member of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway Plus Class (to be joined by the Norwegian Bliss in 2017).

Celebrity Cruises Suite Upgrades

After spending a couple of years meticulously collecting feedback from cruise passengers, Celebrity Cruises have announced they will improve the suite class cabins across the fleet. The six different suite classes aboard the fleet – Reflection, Penthouse, Royal, Signature, Celebrity and Sky – will benefit from a selection of new features and amenities including priority check-ins, concierge and complimentary wining and dining options.

Princess Cruises Golden Anniversary

Celebrating 50 years since founder Stanley McDonald chartered Pacific Limited’s Princess Patricia and sailed the newly-named Mexican Riviera, Princess Cruises are holding a series of special events throughout 2015.

A major theme throughout the celebrations is the American sitcom, The Love Boat. The show was set on a number of vessels in the Princess Cruises fleet and helped propel the brand into the limelight. Love Boat Discos are set to become a constant fixture on Princess Cruises itineraries throughout 2015.
