P&O Cruises have just added two ships to their Carnival Australia fleet. The new additions, which will set sail from November 2015, will take the number of vessels in the fleet to five in an exciting move by the company.

The vessels have transferred to P&O from the Holland America fleet, demonstrating the company’s dedication to and belief in the Australian cruising industry. An operations team are currently planning itineraries and home-porting arrangements for the recent additions.

P&O Cruises’ Senior Vice President, Tammy Marshall, enthused: “Both ships are of a similar mid-range size to the three existing P&O Cruises shipsPacific DawnPacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl, with a range of on-board features that will be tailored for Australian and New Zealand cruise customers.

“They are intimate, offering space, comfort and style, giving passengers more destinations to cruise from, more on-board experiences to indulge in and more reasons to cruise.”

The two vessels are currently sailing as a part of Holland America’s fleet under the names of MS Ryndam and MS Statendam. Their addition will take the total number of locally-based vessels sailing under the P&O, Carnival Cruise Lines and Princess Cruise Brands to 12.

Carnival Australia CEO, Ann Sherry, explained that the decision to increase the fleet is an “emphatic statement about Carnival Australia’s confidence and leadership in the Australian cruise market and reaffirmation of P&O Cruises’ status as Australia’s iconic ‘home brand’ cruise line.”

Of the ships’ three new sister ships: Pacific Dawn is currently based out of Brisbane with Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl residing in Sydney, but it has not been revealed where the latest additions will sail from.

The transfer will represent a change of pastures for the new vessels with the MS Ryndam currently alternating between Caribbean and European cruises, and the MS Statendam cruising Alaskan waters in the Summer and the Panama Canal in Winter.
